My wife and I have moved houses six times in the last six years. The last move being from Melbourne to Canberra. We were getting tired of moving large heavy furniture items, so I designed these multipurpose modular boxes that can stack in any orientation. They are light enough for us to pick up one in each hand and strong enough for me to stand on.

The Problem

We had a few hurdles with this project. The design required me hide the end-grain of each side whilst keeping the box strong enough to take my weight. Due to budgetary constraints, wide boards were also hard to source, so we ended up joining two boards together to create the desired depth.

Hurdles

The result was a set of simple-looking boxes that we use in a multitude of locations and positions around the house. Most of them are used to hold the TV, some are used as book shelves and others are used as bedside tables in our guest room.
